Proposals

As a responsible operator, NATS is seeking to improve the sustainability of our facility at Prestwick. NATS is committed to only using renewable energy by 2030.

We have identified that the site presents the ideal opportunity to utilise solar panels, the power from which can be used to provide renewable electricity to support our operation.

This will cut down on the use of fossil fuels to power our operations, thereby reducing emissions and reducing our carbon footprint.

The proposals are currently in the early stages of preparation, so detailed information on the scheme is limited. However, initial surveys of the site suggest that it could potentially accommodate approximately 2,500 panels, which could be capable of delivering up to around 21% of our electricity requirements for operations on the site.

Planning

Due to the scale of the proposals, South Ayrshire Council requires NATS to submit a formal Proposal of Application Notice (PoAN).

This was undertaken on the 16th May 2023 with the following description:

“Proposal of application notice for installation of ground and roof mounted solar
photovoltaic panels and associated development, infrastructure and landscaping.”

South Ayrshire Council confirmed on the 31st May that the details contained within the POAN are sufficient to allow the proposals to proceed. As a result, we are holding two consultation events, with details provided below.

Consultation Events

We held a first consultation event between 3pm and 8pm on Thursday 15^th June at Prestwick Community Education Centre, 50 Caerlaverock Road, Prestwick, KA9 1HP.

A second event took from 4pm – 7pm on 13th July 2023 at Prestwick Community Education Centre, where we provided feedback to comments received from the event held on 15^th June 2023.

We stopped accepting feedback on the 20th July 2023:

Any personal information received during the planning application process will only be used for communications between Avison Young, NATS (and their appointed consultants) and yourself, unless agreed otherwise with you. Please note that all comments made in respect of this consultation event are not representations to South Ayrshire Council but will be taken into account to help inform the proposals and will form part of a Report of Consultation which will be submitted with the forthcoming application. There will be an opportunity to make representations to the Council when a formal planning application is made.
